Parent Association

What is the PA?

The PA is the collective group of parents of our youth athletes. Like most youth sports programs, the rowing club thrives thanks to the support and involvement of parents. It really does take a village!

What does the PA do?

Our goal is to make race days enjoyable, rewarding, and nutritious for both athletes and families. To support everyone, the PA board sets up a tailgate-style setup at the regattas. The PA board takes care of planning and organizing events, making sure everything runs smoothly. We’re committed to taking care of everyone - from athletes to their families - during those long race days, keeping the athletes fueled and ready to race at their best!

How does the PA communicate?

Race season comes with a lot of information, and the PA is here to help you navigate it. We keep everyone informed via email and SportsYou. We can be reached by email at parentassociation@litchfieldhillsrowingclub.org.

Are there PA dues?

Yes, there are dues to cover the cost of food and other essential expenses such as tents, tables, food-serving equipment, propane for the grill and generator, fuel, tolls, and/or mileage for towing the trailer to regattas, as well as catering at races where we can’t prepare our own food.

  • $125 per family per season for novice and varsity athletes

  • Dues for 8th-grade athletes may vary each season

*Please note, dues do not cover travel, hotel, or regatta registration fees

How do I join the PA?

Once your athlete joins the program, you're automatically part of the PA for the season. No additional sign-up is required!

Is there a PA president or any other position?

Yes, meet the PA board! The PA is led by a dedicated team of volunteers, including the following positions:

  • Co-Presidents: Jonah and Diana Mazzacane

  • Treasurer: Kent Tedford

  • Travel Agent: Shannon Kearney

  • Provisioning: Amy Cassone, Mariana Negrea, and Kristin Hopkins

  • Hospitality: Kim Grivner

  • Non-Race Events Coordinator: Open

  • Parent Ambassadors: Tracy McCarron and Amber Schulde

If you’d like to learn more about or assume the role of Non-Race Events Coordinator, please contact us by email at parentassociation@litchfieldhillsrowingclub.org.

As a parent, what is my time commitment to the sport?

Plan to travel with your athlete and spend most of the day at the race site. Your athlete may have multiple races, and you’ll need to stay until the entire team finishes, de-rigs, and packs up the boats and equipment at the end of the day. Think of it as an all-day tailgate, full of excitement and team spirit! Some regattas may even span an entire weekend, so be ready for a full and exciting experience.

It takes a small army to set up the tent, organize food service, prepare meals, update the race results board, clean up, and pack up at the end of the day–and that army is us, the parents! Your help is essential to making everything run smoothly.

What’s on the menu?

LHRC is dedicated to providing healthy meals and snacks for our athletes and families during race day. Recent offerings have included chili, pulled pork sandwiches, side salads, fresh fruits, veggie platters, granola bars, oatmeal, breakfast sandwiches, bagels, and more. The PA takes great care to provide a variety of nutritious options to help our athletes perform at their best. Please note that while we prepare a variety of menu items to feed 150+ people, we are unable to accommodate specific dietary restrictions at this time.
